«New Media: Content vs Medium» The Art Newspaper Conference September, 21 | viennacontemporary

The Art Newspaper

21 September 2016,
11:30am 3:30pm at viennacontemporary,
Marx Halle, Karle-Farkas-Gasse 19, A-1030, Vienna

An afternoon of talks bypassing the hackneyed “Print vs Digital” discussion that has monopolised the publishing industry for the past decade, shifting the focus instead to “Content vs Medium” and to the rising new audience, Generation Z.

For those working in the new media
and publishing industries,
the forum will focus on

  • New strategies of art, culture and news markets, as well as media engagement with Generation Z, bridging a wider discussion of medium and content and how they affect each other.
  • How best to create, structure and deliver content for the modern audience, while ensuring future-proof solutions that won’t be instantly outdated?
  • How industry leaders from the art and media worlds are harnessing the digital Zeitgeist to assert influence, stay relevant, grow revenue and evolve?
  • The new provocateurs, who they are and how they are leveraging online networks, new voices and virtual exhibition spaces to engage Generation Z directly?

Hear from leading industry experts including

  • Francesca Gavin, curator, Visual Arts Editor at Dazed, a Contributing Editor at AnOtherand Sleek magazines, Art Editor of Twin magazine
  • Ilya Krasilschik, Publisher,
  • Jessica Backus, Director of Genome Project, Director of Gallery Relations, Artsy
  • Kimberly Bradley, journalist, The New York Times/Monocle
  • Markus Lust, Editor-in-Chief Alps, VICE
  • Anthony Calnek, worldwide director of media services, Sotheby’s

  • Garrett Martin Johnston, chief executive of Macroscope Consulting
  • Mikhail Mendelevitch, head of digital, The Art Newspaper

The forum will take place in partnership with the viennacontemporary art fair, on its opening day in the talk area of Marx Halle. Guests can also enjoy coffee and cocktail breaks during the event, whilst networking with colleagues and peers. All conference guests will have access to the fair’s VIP preview
